Barry opened the show with a gorgeous new jacket. It was a royal purple with a
wide black lapel - it appeared to be velvet. I also finally noticed that the backups
have new costumes that they open the show in. The girls are wearing very classy
looking black dresses.
Same set list, but even more energy than Friday night. Barry pulled out all stops.
And the audience was wild, fans and civilians alike.
Unchained Melody and Love Is A Many Splendored Thing were again fantastic. The
audience especially seemed to enjoy LIAMST. Both songs were very strong and passionate.
But the first winner of the night (there were two) was Are You Lonesome Tonight.
Wow, wow, wow! I wish I hadn't been sitting way over to the side tonight - but
maybe I wouldn't have survived it if I had been sitting front and center again!
It was so emotional - he sang it so sweetly and tenderly. If Elvis had sung it
that way, I might have liked the song! I've certainly grown to love Barry's version.
The second winner of the night was You've Lost That Loving Feeling. I said that
last night's version was sexy - well, we have another WOW here. It was even more
sexy tonight. More angst, more defiance, more passion - the lyrics should have been
"More, More, MORE!" - oh, wait - that's what the audience was saying!
We got the sexy finger wiggles again, too. And probably another good reason for me
to be sitting on the side rather than in the center!
The audience really enjoyed the 60's medley. Besides YLTLF, they seemed very
appreciative of What the World Needs Know Is Love. The audience also seems to enjoy
when they all do the "Temptation Walk".
For the first time I noticed that while the girls are singing Where Did Our Love Go,
Barry are Kye are singing Where Did Our Love Go. At the end of that portion of the medley,
Barry sings the "ooh ooh" that you hear at the beginning of Where Did Our Love Go (The
Supremes recording of it, I mean). I noticed
it a couple of other times this week, but this is the first time that he's really
put any power behind it - he hits the high notes in it perfectly. Despite what he
says about R&B not fitting him, I think he does it well.
Looks Like We Made It also got a very strong reaction from the crowd. Hard to
believe that it wouldn't be received well, though. It's a great song - and Barry always
performs it well.
And so this probably had to be the best show of the week, even though last night's
was extra special to me. How many weeks is it until December? I swear if this
show ever goes away, and if Barry ever goes away, they'll have to put me in the
funny farm. Nothing has ever made me feel this good, and I don't believe that
there's anything else that will be able to replace that feeling.
